First off this is the best modeller I have tried. It gives quick results and is easy to manipulate. My problem is the size of the models when I import a 3ds file or export to .x. I was going to use an animation package with the models I have made but when I open them in the program they are gigantic sized. Like a real city in a snow globe. Is there a scale option I am missing? Also I tried loading some public domain files that were in .3ds and again the size was enourmous.

Will there be a renderer that will be packaged with this modeler?

thanks for any help,

williemac

First of all, thanks for the compliment and welcome to the forum!

Unfortunately, there is no 'common standard' on how big models should be, it all depends on the modeler you use. While developing the 3ds importer I tried loads of (freeware) 3ds models, and some would come out enormous, others miniscule. That is why the 3ds importer has the 'scale factor' property, which supports fractional numbers (i.e. you can use 0.5 to scale something to half the size) if you want to scale things down. This information is included in the readme.txt as well btw Wink

The .X exporter doesn't have a scale option, because it is common practise (or at least, we like to think so Smile) to handle scale difference when importing anyway. However, there is nothing wrong with adding a scale factor the .x exporter as well, even if only for convenience reasons. We will put it on the todo-list.

About the renderer package, as DeleD is intended as a low-poly modeler (i.e. models for practical use in 3d games), a renderer is not overly practical (as for a nice rendered still, you'll want to use high-poly models anyway). That said, I think I can tell you (and if not Jeroen can tell me off for this) that we do have a quick renderer planned for some point in the future. But we are talking long-term planning here.

the reason I need a low level modeler is for game models. High poly counts would slow down the game I have planed. I have found a nice little engine, it is a little raw but it is open license and once I can get some good set pieces together I will start playing with the engine.

Do you have any plans for a subtract function for punching holes in walls and things?

Again I want to say how great this little modeller is. I have ben able to assemble more set pieces in a few days than I have in a year with other programs.

Best,

williemac

Hi williemac
From jeroen Very Happy
Quote:
DeleD 1.x PRO will have basic skinning functionality which includes a tool to manipulate individual UV coordinates on polygons. It will also include a basic CSG carve function. Besides basic skinning and CSG, DeleD PRO will contain additional functionality not to be found in the LITE version.

williemac, if you only want to do low-poly models, I don't really understand what you would need the renderer for... did you perhaps mean a rendering engine? At some point in the future, DeleD will probably get a 'walk around in your level quick preview' mode, but that won't be implemented anytime soon.

Little side note at Dave's quote: we are talking PRO 1.x here, not the first 1.0 version (of course, buying 1.0 entitles you to download every 1.x version that will be released).

for animations. Maybe renderer is the wrong word. I have found an item that will do the trick. I just downloaded 3d canvas, this imports the .x format but only exports to povray. It will do for now. The game engine I found is pretty unfinished and I haven't figured out how to import any external images so I need something that I can "walk" around in until I figure out what I am doing.

I'm very glad to hear that because ease-of-use is one of the things we hold high around here. If you have suggestions on how to improve DeleD, please don't hesitate to tell us about them here! Smile

About the scaling issue: can't you use the regular Scale function for objects? Maybe merging your scene into one object and then scaling that object would do the trick.
